Coarse Shredded Bark
The single shredded bark comes straight to us from the saw mill and is the raw product for our double shredded bark. It is light in color and very inconsistent in size. Generally, we do not recommend the single shredded bark for a decorative mulch due to its inconsistency.
Fine Shredded Bark
Our triple shredded bark is very fine and is medium to dark brown in color. Like all bark mulch, it will start to turn a whitish-gray in six to eight weeks. It should be cool to the touch before you place it around any plants.
Rutter’s Compost
Our compost is a yard-trimming compost that is manufactured on site from ground brush, leaves, grass and stumps. The ingredients are ground, mixed in specific proportions and placed in windrows for six to nine months. Once the material is ready, it is ground to size (coarse or fine). The c
oarser material is a great mulch. The finer material is a super soil amendment, although it can also be used as a mulch. The compost is a medium to dark brown color and it will stay that color. You will find that you will lose more volume over time compared to the other mulches, but that’s when the magic of compost happens.

We participated in the US Composting Council Seal of Testing Assurance program in its inaugural year and for several years after.
